Esmeralda & Maria’s San Francisco City Hall Wedding

Esmeralda and Maria were married at San Francisco City Hall on December 10, 2024, with their children there to share the day. Esmeralda’s young daughter and Maria’s two boys were part of the celebration, making their wedding story about more than the two of them—it was also about the family they share. For couples planning their own City Hall wedding, their day is a reminder that a smaller celebration can still include the people who matter most. You don’t need a large wedding to make space for meaningful photographs and time together.

A Wedding Day Shared With Their Children

One detail I wanted to highlight from Esmeralda and Maria’s wedding was the presence of their children. Including them in the story gives these photographs meaning beyond the wedding itself. If your children will be joining you at San Francisco City Hall, let your photographer know ahead of time. We can plan for family portraits alongside photographs of just the two of you, without expecting children to stay perfectly posed throughout the day. Leave room for breaks and bring someone you trust who can help while you take couple portraits. A small snack and comfortable shoes can help, too. The goal isn’t to make every moment look perfect—it’s to create space for everyone to feel comfortable and included.

When to Plan Your San Francisco City Hall Wedding

For couples hoping to avoid larger crowds, I recommend considering an early-morning ceremony early in the week. This can give you a better chance of quieter surroundings and more breathing room for photographs. City Hall is a public building, so an early appointment doesn’t guarantee empty hallways or a staircase all to yourselves. A flexible photography plan helps us work with the day as it unfolds rather than depending on one particular spot being available.

When choosing your appointment, think about your whole morning—not just the ceremony. Give yourselves enough time to get ready, travel, and arrive without feeling rushed.

Leave Room for Wedding Portraits

Your ceremony appointment is only one part of your wedding day. Leaving time around it for photographs allows you to enjoy being together rather than rushing straight to your next stop.

Before the wedding, tell me which photographs matter most to you. That might mean portraits with your children, a photograph with everyone who came to celebrate, or time for just the two of you. A short list of important family photographs helps keep everyone included while leaving room for candid moments. You don’t need to plan every image in advance.
