Carmel Proposal Photographer | Digital & Film
For Asher and Tyler’s proposal, I photographed the day using a mix of digital and film photography.
Digital allowed me to capture all of those quick, emotional moments as the proposal unfolded, while film brought a softer, nostalgic feeling to the story. There’s something about film that pairs beautifully with Carmel the coastal light, muted colors, ocean views, and Monterey cypress trees all have a timeless quality on film.
I love combining both formats for proposals because they complement each other so well. You get the consistency and detail of digital photography alongside the texture, color, and imperfect beauty that makes film feel so special. Together, the digital and film photographs tell the full story of Asher and Tyler’s Carmel proposal from the anticipation before the question to the excitement and quiet moments afterward.
The Best Time for a Proposal in Carmel
If you’re dreaming of that soft, glowy Carmel light, I recommend planning your proposal about 30 minutes before sunset. This is when the light begins to soften, creating a warm, romantic glow along the coast and through the Monterey cypress trees. It also gives us beautiful light for photographs right after the proposal, when we can slow things down, explore the area, and capture those first moments of being engaged. Early mornings are another beautiful option, especially if you want something quieter and more intimate. Carmel tends to feel peaceful in the morning, with fewer people around and a calm atmosphere that can make the proposal feel even more private. Whether you choose the golden light before sunset or a quiet early morning, I can help you choose the timing based on the location, season, and atmosphere you’re envisioning.
